Protect Your Home, Uncover Unwanted Surprises with Sewer and Septic System Inspections
What Are Sewer and Septic Camera Inspections?

Pipe Inspection Pictures
Freedom Underground uses a pipe inspection camera to remotely examine the inside of a sewer or septic line. During the inspection, we discuss our findings with you in real time, identifying clogs, blockages, or pipe deterioration. We also record the video feed, providing you with a copy for your records.
Our equipment includes a locator that pinpoints the camera’s position and depth. This gives us precise information about problem areas or important features like connections. We use the same technology during our Utility Locating Services.
Written reports are available upon request.
When Should You Get a Sewer Pipe Inspection?
- When purchasing a home – As the buyer, you are responsible for checking the condition of the sewer line.
- Before adding a bathroom or planning a major remodel – Ensure your sewer line can handle increased usage.
- When adding an ADU – A new unit often requires a sewer connection to your existing line.
- If you experience drainage issues – Clogs and blockages should be identified before repairs are attempted.
- Unexplained odors inside or outside your home – These may indicate hidden sewer issues.
- Standing water or pooling under your house or landscape – A possible sign of a broken or leaking pipe.
- If your pipes are old and may be at risk of failure.
When Should You Get a Septic System Inspection?
- When buying a home with a septic system – Several times a year, we assist new homeowners who unknowingly inherited a failing system. Replacements are expensive—an inspection helps protect your investment.
- If you do not know where your septic tank or drain fields are located.
- Before adding a bathroom or remodeling to expand occupancy.
- When adding an ADU.
- After septic tank pumping, if you want to verify the tank’s condition. (An empty tank provides ideal inspection conditions.)
- If you notice slow drainage or repeated backups in toilets, sinks, or drains.
- Odors, wet spots, or standing water near the septic tank or leach field.
- The US EPA recommends inspections every 1 to 3 years.
A septic system inspection is especially important if the system is not new. While septic systems can last for decades, overuse, poor maintenance, and seismic activity can shorten their lifespan. A camera inspection gives you peace of mind—and potentially saves you from costly surprises.
How Much Do Sewer or Septic Inspections Cost?
We charge $375 for the first hour and $175 for each additional hour, if needed. If the inspection leads to a larger repair or replacement project, we typically credit this cost toward the final job. Septic inspections require the tank to be pumped beforehand.
