New Water Service Lines

Upgrading Your Water Line for Fire Sprinklers, ADUs, or Home Additions
There are several reasons a property owner may need to install or replace a water line, but the most common is to meet modern building codes. New construction and home additions often require fire sprinklers, necessitating an increased water supply. This typically means upgrading to a larger-diameter water service line to meet flow requirements.
Tapping into the Main Water Line for New Construction or Upgrades
If your project requires upgrading the size of your water line or relocating it, a new connection—or “tap”—into the main water supply in the street may be necessary. Not all plumbing contractors are qualified to perform this type of work, as your contractor needs to hold A General Engineering Contractor (A-License), which is required for projects that involve public streets. In addition, we also hold a C36 Plumber’s license.
At Freedom Underground, we specialize in these projects. With extensive experience working on public streets, we know how to navigate city and county permitting processes and coordinate with water utilities across the Bay Area. Our team uses trenchless methods to minimize open trenching needs, though work in the public streets normally requires open trenching. For such jobs, we employ appropriate heavy equipment, such as excavators, to dig trenches, remove asphalt, place traffic plates, and prepare the site. We install all necessary plumbing components, then work with the Inspectors and Water Utility Provider to arrange for “hot taps” into the water main and new water meter installation.
If you need your water line replaced or need to upgrade the size due to new construction or a remodel of your home, Freedom Underground can provide you a free estimate.

Trenchless Water Line Replacement
Whenever possible, we do trenchless water line installation as it is less expensive and less disruptive to your landscape. Normally, this is not allowed for new pipe installation between the meter and water main but can usually be done on the private property side of the water meter.
